PLF Atlantic Center PLF’s Atlantic Center has become Florida’s preeminent public interest legal organization dedicated to protecting property rights and individual liberties. Representing citizens throughout the Sunshine State and the eastern U.S., the Atlantic Center handles cases across the spectrum of PLF’s litigation areas.
A review of Atlantic Center successes achieved just since its Spring 2007 return to its original home in Stuart illustrates the Center’s broad reach. In May of that year, Atlantic Center attorneys, representing homeowners in Riviera Beach, Florida, were successful in stopping what national commentators called one of the biggest abuses of eminent domain anywhere in America. In July, Atlantic Center attorneys won a landmark victory in federal court forcing the federal government to conduct overdue status reviews of nearly every species listed as endangered or threatened in the state. This is the first decision of its kind in the United States. And in September, a Florida appeals court, in another first-of-its-kind decision, required local governments to consider private property rights before permitting vehicular access to Florida’s beaches. As advocates for clients in courts across the Atlantic coast, including in the United States Supreme Court, Atlantic Center attorneys are defenders of the rights guaranteed to Americans by the Constitution. In short, they provide strong and proud voices arguing vigorously for the principles of limited government and personal liberty that animate that founding document.
