Pacific Legal Foundation’s Hawaii Center is the only local public-interest legal foundation committed to protecting the state’s citizens from unjust government regulation of their lives and property.

Excessive regulatory actions—and court decisions upholding them—are painfully familiar to the many farmers, business owners, homeowners, and families living in Hawaii. Regulatory takings of private property (including vested water rights), extortionate development fees, abuse of the eminent domain power, overbearing regulation of businesses, and stifling land use permitting rules are just some of the many “big government” intrusions that are sapping the economic lifeblood from this beautiful state.

Since 1986, PLF’s Hawaii Center has remained steadfast in its mission to restore reason and constitutional limits to government regulations so that Hawaii citizens may pursue economic security and success. PLF is accomplishing that by aggressively seeking rulings in the state and federal courts and the U.S. Supreme Court that: (1) limit government intrusion in the lives of Hawaii citizens, (2) impose commonsense controls on government regulations like the Endangered Species Act, and (3) protect constitutionally guaranteed private property rights. The HAWAII CENTER advocates sensible and balanced land use planning and responsible development that does not adversely affect Hawaii’s natural resources, public health and safety, or economy.
